UJA-Federation’s Connect to Care
This recession is probably different from any you’ve seen in your lifetime. While there have always been people who’ve struggled financially, this recession has affected people from across the economic spectrum, even middle-class families and those who once had even greater resources and never dreamed they would need help.
The challenge is reflected in the increased demand for services reported by UJA-Federation’s beneficiary agencies.
- A 39 percent increase for housing services.
- A 55 percent increase for requests for rent subsidies.
- A 45 percent increase for legal services.
- Increases of 25 to 33 percent for medical and healthcare programs, emergency cash assistance, job training, and day school scholarships.
If you’re one of many New Yorkers who’ve been hurt in this economic downturn, we’re here to help. Our Connect to Care initiative is providing critical services to thousands of area families by providing employment and career-transition services, including job networking opportunities and career seminars; financial consultation, debt counseling, and budget assistance; legal services; and supportive counseling and Jewish spiritual care.
